Volunteer Spotlight: Lionel Hilliard

Volunteers make a world of difference!

The mission of Resource Center could not be achieved without our volunteers. The talents, skills, time and energy donated by our volunteers are a valued resource.

We spoke to longtime supporter and volunteer Lionel Hilliard about his experience at Resource Center.

Lionel, tell us why did you choose to volunteer at Resource Center?

“This is a place where volunteering is impacting individuals directly in the health and welfare of individuals who are in need of help, whether it is temporarily or on an ongoing basis.”

What is your motivation and why during a pandemic?

“My motivation is ‘this is the front line of defense’ because without proper nutrition your body, mind and soul can’t synchronize to fight off COVID.”

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about volunteering?

“This is one of the most rewarding things you can do to make a difference in the community.”

Each year, more than 1,200 dedicated volunteers help the Center serve the LGBTQIA+ and HIV communities in North Texas. Volunteers donate their timer by serving hot meals, answering telephones, stocking shelves, and helping at fundraising events.
