Attention all LGBTQIA+ allies! Your voices are needed now more than ever. The Texas Legislature is currently considering more than 120 bills that would undermine or harm the LGBTQIA+ community, and it’s up to you to let your elected officials know we won’t tolerate another round of attacks this legislative session.
At a time when Texans of all political, ethnic, racial and religious stripes support equal rights for LGBTQIA+ people, these bills would take us back in time. Opponents of LGBTQIA+ equality are seeking to deny basic rights and protections to our community – and transgender and non-conforming youth will be the most impacted by this cruel legislation.
This session we are seeing bills that would allow discrimination against LGBTQIA+ individuals in the workplace, in housing, and in other areas of public life. They would also limit the ability of transgender Texans to access healthcare and essential services. Others would limit discussion and representation of LGBTQIA+ identities on school campuses. There is even a drag tax that would punish businesses for hosting drag brunch and other events. Are these the top priorities facing Texas?
If you believe in equality and fairness for all, then it’s crucial that you speak out against these bills. Here’s what you can do:
- Use our portal to contact your representatives in the Texas Legislature. Let them know that you oppose any measures that would discriminate against the LGBTQIA+ community. All it takes is a few clicks!
- Share your story. If you or someone you know has been impacted by hatred or discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression share your story with your representatives. Help them understand why these bills would be harmful to Texans like you or your loved ones. Feel free to add your thoughts into our prompt!
