Coming Fall 2018
Combining talk therapy or counseling with the use of properly prescribed medication has been shown to improve focus for therapeutic treatment, reduce client symptoms significantly, and help individuals return to the highest level of functioning. While counseling alone can be helpful for many issues, there are times when medication may be used to provide additional, and sometimes substantial relief.
Psychiatric Medication Management is offered on an outpatient basis to adults ages 18 and older, who are actively participating in a Resource Center Behavioral Health counseling service.
Medication management is the initial evaluation of the client’s need for psychotropic medications, the provision of a prescription, and, as needed, ongoing outpatient medical monitoring and evaluation related to the client’s use of the psychotropic medication.
The initial Psychiatric evaluation will take approximately 45-60 minutes with a psychiatric practitioner, either psychiatrist or certified nurse practitioner.
During the medication evaluation the psychiatric practitioner will review current symptoms, medical issues, medication history, allergies, family history, and other pertinent questions to develop a full understanding of how the problems affects you.
Regular follow-up is essential to assure the medication has its desired effect, and active participation in a Resource Center Behavioral Health counseling service is required. The psychiatric practitioner will collaborate closely with you and your therapist over the course of your treatment.
