The Center’s advocacy for the communities we serve extends back to the Center’s founding in 1983 as the Foundation for Human Understanding. Today, our advocacy takes many forms, from visiting with state lawmakers about policy and funding issues to actively working with government and schools to develop more inclusive policies.
We’ve spoken and marched in demonstrations and encouraged people to write letters and make phone calls. When it comes to advocating for the LGBT community as well as all people impacted by HIV/AIDS, it’s an important part of our past, our present and our future. And from leading the efforts to get Dallas ISD to adopt a comprehensive anti-bullying policy to pressuring Dallas County to add transgender employment protections, we deliver results.
