SUMMARY:Heightened Scrutiny Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join the Transgender Education Network of Texas and the Resource Center for an exclusive screening of Heightened Scrutiny! The film will be followed by a talkback with leaders shaping the trans policy landscape in Texas: State Representative Jessica Gonzalez\, TENT’s Executive Director Emmett Schelling\, and moderated by the Resource Center’s Rachel Hill. \nThe screening is sliding scale\, with no one turned away for lack of funds. All donations will support TENT and the Resource Center‘s work. \nDoors: 7:00 PM \nShow: 7:30 PM \nLocation: North Dallas – exact location will be sent upon RSVP. \n\nAbout the Film\nHEIGHTENED SCRUTINY follows Chase Strangio\, ACLU attorney and the first out trans person to argue before the Supreme Court\, as he fights a high-stakes legal battle to overturn Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for transgender youth (United States v. Skrmetti). \nThe film exposes the dangerous role of mainstream media in fueling anti-trans legislation\, uncovering how biased coverage drives hate\, endangers lives\, and threatens democracy itself. With insights from journalists like Jelani Cobb\, Lydia Polgreen\, and Gina Chua\, and activists like Laverne Cox\, the story dismantles anti-trans disinformation and highlights its devastating real-world impact. With the dangerous SCOTUS decision upholding the ban on life-saving healthcare\, HEIGHTENED SCRUTINY is an urgent call to action against bigotry and injustice. \nWatch the trailer or learn more here. \n\nAbout the Transgender Education Network of Texas \nThe Transgender Education Network of Texas is the largest statewide\, BIPOC trans-led\, trans-focused policy\, education\, and advocacy organization in the state of Texas. \nTENT works to accomplish gender-diverse equality through education and networking in both public and private forums. Through our efforts\, we strive to halt discrimination through social\, legislative\, and corporate education. \nIn 2025\, we defeated 94% of anti-trans bills introduced into legislation\, and helped file over 100 bills benefitting all Texans. We organized with community to advocate for trans rights at the Texas State Capitol\, with Trans Texans and allies dropping nearly 7\,000 cards in support of trans rights\, testifying against anti-trans bills\, and sharing their stories with legislators and community. \nWith your support\, we will continue fighting for trans futures. \nTo learn more about our work\, visit: transtexas.org \nAbout the Resource Center \nResource Center pursues societal equity by proudly offering LGBTQIA+ affirming resources designed to improve health and wellness\, strengthen families and communities\, and provide transformative education and advocacy. \nResource Center is proud to have served the LGBTQIA+ and HIV/AIDS communities in Dallas-Fort-Worth for four decades!
